Frankel replaces Camelot as top runner of current season
Just a few days ago, Camelot posed to be the top runner of the Great Britain Racing Season 2012 despite the fact that he had unluckily missed the chance to break Nijinsky’s 42-year record of Triple Crown, but everything changed dramatically on October 20
when Frankel marvellously won the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot racecourse.
Currently, the legendary trainer Sir Henry Cecil’s superstar holds top slot with prize money worth 1,625,592 and five wins that he has earned since the dawn of this season.
But it is sad to note that the brilliant bay colt will no more be witnessed in action as his owner, K. Abdulla, has pulled his strings back to stud. This startling decision was announced at the eve of his last victory that came in the presence of the Queen
and thousands of sport lovers.
With the glorious unbeaten record of 14 victories, Frankel has given up racing. It is a matter of great honour for him, his trainer and owner that the colt has quit at the time when he holds the top rank.
On the other hand, Camelot is passing through a lean patch these days. Since the day he failed to finish first in the St Leger Stakes, he has been somewhat off-coloured. Some sport analysts claim that he has lost the momentum he started his career with.
The A. P. O’Brien trained bay colt debuted on July 14, 2011. After winning Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes  and Investec Derby, he was attempting to complete the Triple Crown title, but Encke dashed his dreams to ground by beating him with a narrow margin on September
15.
But, this patch is temporary, as Camelot will soon be able to overcome it. Whatever he does, it will be hard for him to meet the standards Frankel has set. One thing is clear that the sport fans will never be able to forget these two starts of the sky of
horseracing world.
Frankel is likely to work in stud for the rest of his life, while Camelot will be looking to accomplish some more grand feats, but Triple Crown record does not seem to be in his reach anymore.
