Frankel set to face challenge by Excelebration in JLT Lockinge Stakes
Frankel has won excellent odds for winning the JLT Lockinge Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) at Newbury in England on Saturday, May 19, 2012. The winner of the class-1 event will be awarded a cash prize of £99,243.
The going will be good in the 1 mile long race, which is scheduled to start at 15:40 GMT. This means that the stamina of all runners will be put to a test. Following entries have been confirmed for action: Bullet Train, Dubawi Gold, Excelebration, Frankel,
Ransom Note, Strong Suit and Windsor Palace.
From the bookmakers’ point of view, there is no doubt that Frankel is the hot favourite to win today’s race. The punters are also expected to risk a lot of money in his favour, but they might be proved wrong by Excelebration, who has a better stamina compared
to his rivals.
Frankel has managed to maintain a 100 percent winning record in his nine outings, which shows the kind of form he is carrying at the moment. It appears that no one will be able to come anywhere closer to him at Newbury.
The four-year-old colt was dominant in his most recent race, as he managed to win it by four lengths. He took the lead from the start and kept on pressing hard until the finish line approached.
The Sir Henry Cecil’s trainee will be partnered by seasoned jockey, Tom Queally, who has enjoyed a lot of success at this level. However, he does not have a very good strike rate, which will discourage the punters from risking money on him.
Although Excelebration was unable to challenge Frankel when both met last time around, things might not turn out to be the same today.
The A. P. O'Brien’s trainee has entered 10 races until now, winning six of them and finishing runner up on a couple of times. In addition to that, he has also secured the third place once, which shows that he is a highly competitive runner.
The four-year-old colt was dominant in his most recent run, thus he is carrying excellent momentum right now. He will be partnered by J. P. O'Brien in the race today.
Although Frankel is likely to win the maximum number of bets today, it will be a brave move to risk some money on Excelebration, who has the potential to cause an upset.
