Frankel to continue with the unprecedented success in the JLT Lockinge Stakes at Newbury
The world’s highest rated miler, Frankel is rolling into the 2012 campaign today by being the favourite entry for the Group 1 JLT Lockinge Stakes (British Champions Series) at Newbury over a mile on Saturday, 19th May. From the line-up of seven
runners, the winner gets to take away the £99,243 prize money.
Galileo’s four-year-old colt is once again among the fiercest of rivals who have failed time and again to defeat the ultimate when it comes to racing.
Today is the sixth time that Frankel will attempt a Group 1 race.
His previous season took off with a victory in the Group 3 Totesport.Com Greenham Stakes on 16th April at Newbury over seven furlongs. The initial furlongs were a contention between Frankel and his stable mate, Picture Editor. The leading dual
was soon joined by Excelebration.
Picture Editor did lead the field for fraction of a second but then again was over shadowed by Frankel. Far from the concluding stages it was apparent that Frankel was not willing to give room to any other contender and thus finished with four lengths under
lead.
He then blew off the field of thirteen in the Group 1 Qipco 2000 Guineas on 30th April at Newmarket by dominating the track gate to wire. Frankel did not wait for long to announce his decisive victory as he led by almost ten lengths when half
of the race was still to go.
Leading by six lengths, he set Dubawi Gold second.
The third start of the season could have disturbed the connections as it took a while for Frankel the bridge the gap from the fourth position to the lead in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes on 14th June at Ascot.
This race displayed Frankel’s ability to handle the pressure of not being in the lead and then earning it by closing in the gap to the wire.
The Group 1 Qipco Sussex Stakes saw Frankel winning all out through his signature style of ruling the track from the gate to the wire. He tackled the racing legend, Canford Cliffs with the confidence that only a champion himself can possess.
His final start of the previous season was in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and once more Frankel’s style indicated versatility. His stable mate, Bullet Train, took up the lead and it was only towards the final furlong that Frankel dictated his terms
for the race and led Excelebration by four lengths.
Sir Henry Cecil trained has been guided through the track by Tom Queally in various situations and the two have never failed to come up with the strategy to bag the race even if at times it means getting prominent only towards the end.
After settling second to Frankel thrice, Excelebration, is expected to give the four-year-old some hard time today. Stable mate, Bullet Train, will yet again share the track with Frankel as already impeccably planned out by Sir Henry Cecil.
