Frankel to tackle the Richard Hannon duo in the JLT Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on 19th May
Frankel has enthralled his fans and connections by getting drilled at Newmarket among his stable mates, Bullet Train and Jet Away at the Rowley Mile with Tom Queally onboard over seven and a half furlong.
The news was much awaited and is very important because the world’s highest rated thoroughbred endured a leg injury on 11th April which was a depressing news for all. However within a week his condition was declared all clear which made the connections enthusiastic about his practice for the comeback and the brand new 2012 campaign.
His work out was almost the repetition of his all out racing style, stretching clear in a breathtaking manner.
Cecil said: 'He really enjoyed himself and was very relaxed. 'He's grown a bit, he's stronger and he's getting much more sensible. That was the worry, but now he is settling and maybe there will be more improvement to come. 'I think everything looks good for the Lockinge, before which he will need another two to three bits of work, but at the moment everything is fine."
The unbeaten colt is being pointed for the Grade 1 JLT Lockinge Stakes that are to be held at Newbury over a mile on 19th May as his seasonal debut.
Frankel, the four-year-old bay colt out of mare, Kind, is unbeaten through the nine career starts that are spread over two racing seasons and on 19th May he will stride into the third campaign. It will be his second career attempt at Newbury, the first one being during the previous season.
He won the Group 3 Totesport.Com Greenham Stakes on 16th April 2011 over seven furlongs.
The ¼ favourite winner was riding with Tom Queally and led the runner up, Excelebration, by four lengths.
The recent work out has given Frankel’s regular jockey, Tom Queally, a fair idea about the temperament and stamina of the four-year-old specially after suffering through an injury.
The rider could not have been happier about it.
Queally siad: "He is moving 100 per cent and that was exactly what we were looking for."
The race is highly important as it is not only the seasonal debut but also that first try at racing after recovering from the injury.
For the last two years the race has been won by trainer Richard Hannon and this time too he has two possible entries, Dubawi Gold and Strong Suit.
