Frankel’s fans relieved as he has been declared healthy after a thorough check-up
Frankel, the super star colt trained by Sir Henry Cecil, gave his fans a scare with false rumours of retirement.
Things looked bleak for the young runner as he sustained an injury in a routine work-out, but after a thorough check-up, the four-year-old has been declared fit.
Cecil informed the media that the son of Galileo, out of Kind, has recovered and everything with his sheath and tendon is alright.
He stated that: "I've had him walking and trotting and everything seems to have settled down. We'll resume work and feel our way.
"I'd like to make Newbury if possible because it's a long time with a horse like that to hang around until Ascot. I'll feel my way but I'm hopeful. If I have to take him somewhere, I'll take him."
The JLT Lockinge Stakes (British Champions Series) is scheduled to take place at Newbury on 19th May, 2012, and Frankel’s participation will create a buzz in the market.
Owned by Khalid Abdullah, the runner has had a stellar career as he has not once been defeated.
Throughout his racing career, the bay colt was mounted by jockey Tom Queally, who led him to a number of brilliant victories.
The first victory of his career materialised in European Breeders' Fund Maiden Stakes at Newmarket on 13th August, 2010.
He raced as a favourite with a chance of 7 to 4, and heated the track with his lightning pace when he bagged a narrow victory over the John Gosden trained Nathaniel, who fell ½ a length short of victory.
With his swift pace, he triumphed over, Excelebration, by 4 lengths in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Sponsored By Qipco (British Champions Mile) at Ascot race course on 15th
October, 2011, where he raced as a 4 to 11 favourite.
Bred by Juddmonte Farms Ltd, the runner has not competed in a race this year, but if his health improves, he will make a comeback at Newbury.
It would have been truly unfortunate if the colt had to end his career prematurely, but luckily for him and his connections, things have worked out fine.
