Frankel’s injury may not allow him to compete in the J.L.T Lockinge Stakes at Newbury
The news of Frankel’s injury has caused a concern among his fans and connections. The four-year-old sustained an injury in routine work-out and may be serious.
The young runner has been scanned for injuries, but will be tested further to ensure that the colt has not incurred a serious injury.
Lord Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner, Khalid Abdulla, told the press that after the initial scan, nothing looked too serious. He further elaborated by stating that:
"Frankel has been scanned and no damage was shown, but we will have him scanned again next week and we will know more then.”
He elaborated and stated that:
"You have to take every precaution and he is in the best hands, receiving all the right attention. I can't predict what will happen. If something comes up, it comes up, but we are still hopeful he will be fine. We'll know more in a week's time."
The son of Galileo, out of mare Kind, is a talented racer with an impeccable track record. Since his career started on 13th August, 2010, he has remained undefeated.
Trained by Sir Henry Cecil, he bagged a magnificent victory in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Sponsored By Qipco (British Champions Mile) at Ascot on 15th
October, 2011, where he entered as a favourite with the odds of 4 to 11.
Ridden by jockey, Tom Queally, he broke through the wire first, defeating, Excelebration, by a wide margin of 4 lengths.
Due to the fact that he has sustained injuries, Frankel will be unable to compete in the J.L.T Lockinge Stakes, which is scheduled to take place at Newbury on 19th May, 2012.
Henry Cecil told the press that:
"He is such an extravagant mover that he hit himself. At this stage the injury looks superficial but he will be kept monitored over the next few days."
Grimthorpe stated that the owner Khalid Abdulla’s primary focus is on what is best for Frankel as his health and form are more important for him than any sentimental or commercial interests.
Frankel will get the best treatment once he is diagnosed.
