Frankie Dettori to bounce back saddling Colour Vision in the Gold Cup at the Ascot
The Godolphin Racing has covered ground with two entries in the Group 1 Gold Cup (British Champions Series) to be raced over two miles and four furlongs at the Ascot on Thursday, 21st June. Representing Mahmood Al Zarooni is Opinion Poll while doing the same for Saeed Bin Suroor is Colour Vision.
Making a comeback for defending the title today is the evening’s favourite, Fame And Glory, trained by the legend himself, Aidan O’Brien.
Mount for the Ascot riding expert, Frankie Dettori, is Colour Vision, Rainbow Quest’s four-year-old grey gelding out of mare, Give Me Five. The Saeed Bin Suroor trained has raced just once ever since the new season shot off and that he easily grabbed with Frankie Dettori in partnership.
His penetration in the new season was through the success in the Group 3 Blue Square Levy Board Sagaro Stakes on 2nd May at Kempton over two miles. Colour Vision led the runner up of the race, Red Cadeaux, by one and a half length while the 5/2 favourite of the race, Thimaar, stationed third on the track of six.
His last experience at Ascot with Fame And Glory and Opinion Poll in the loop was on 15th October, 2011 over two miles. The Group 3 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup was won by Fame And Glory while finishing the closest was the 12/5 favourite runner up, Opinion Poll.
Closing in third just by a nose’s difference was Colour Vision.
For a genius of his profession, Frankie Dettori, the drought has been a bit too long and it is not only him who is considering the race today to be a good luck omen rather his employer, the Godolphin Racing, is also keen to break through and become prominent again.
“This is the best for us,” he said, almost drooling. “I was up at five this morning I was so excited. I couldn’t wait for the paper to arrive. It’s five days of the most fantastic racing. We’ve got Frankel - just watch him go,” stated the champion jockey.
His concerns regarding the recruitment of new riders by Godolphin, Mickael Barzalona and Silvestre De Sousa will get washed away by the victory today.
