Frankie Dettori to partner Havelock in Diamond Jubilee Stakes – Horseracing news
Frankie Dettori has been confirmed to ride Havelock in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in England by the end of this month.
All of the good stallions have been booked for the major competition, which is why the Italian jockey was left with no other choice. His participation in the event was extremely important, thus the decision has been taken to ride a mediocre challenger.
However, it will be a mistake to rule out Havelock, who has the ability to surprise his opponents at any level. Dettori's agent Ray Cochrane rates him quite highly and said, “He looks a solid horse. He won a decent sprint at Keeneland. We've got a few rides,
but I'm not releasing them at the minute as I don't want to frighten anyone away. At Ascot, all the good rides have been taken.”
Since the competition at Ascot is expected to be a tough one, all the jockeys and stallions need to be prepared for battle. However, there are not too many rides available at the moment, which is a bit of a concern for some of the riders.
Dettori has also been looking to book a few races, but he does not have many options right now. His agent commented on the situation, “I'm looking for spare rides for him. I've made phone calls last weekend, and, hopefully, people will come back to me. People
just want to see Frankie busy and working hard. Unfortunately, there are not the good spare rides about. He's taking it well. He's in great form and just glad to be back riding.”
Things have not been easy for Dettori since returning to the sport following a six months ban. He was under immense pressure, but has been trying to handle things in the best possible way.
Although the veteran jockey was unable to make an impression in his comeback race, he has improved with the passage of time and brought up an important victory in a recently held race. Despite that, he is not being contacted for many rides, which would be
disappointing for him.
If he manages to finish in the top three in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, he will once again be back in the business.
