Frankie Dettori will face inquiry over positive drug test
Veteran jockey, Frankie Dettori, who was the champion jockey in the Great Britain in 1994, 1995, and 2005, who also saw his nearly 2 decade long association with Godolphin recently coming to an end could end up facing a France Galop inquiry for returning a positive drug test at Longchamp.
Dettori rode four mounts at Longchamp on the 16 September card, which served as trials for the Group 1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe set to go underway in October at Parisian racecourse.
In the wake of the positive drug tests, the French racing authority’s medical committee in planning a hearing, according to Dettori’s legal representative, Christopher Stewart-Moore.
"On behalf of Frankie Dettori I can confirm that, as a consequence of a positive test at Longchamp on September 16, 2012, he will be the subject of an inquiry by the medical committee of France Galop next week," the statement said.
"In compliance with, and out of respect for, the regulations of France Galop, he will not be commenting further until the France Galop procedures have been completed."
Frankie Dettori parted ways with Godolphin only last month, after winning 110 graded or group 1 races in their colours, but Godolphin Racing announced that they will no longer be retaining their brilliant stable rider.
Godolphin Racing also announced that they will now send jockey Mickael Barzalona and jockey Silvestre de Sousa over their horses in races, and as for Frankie Dettori, he is set to ride freelance in the year 2013.
The start of Dettori and Godolphin started in a promising manner, when Dettori handed Godolphin their first Classic victory with, Balanchine, back in 1994.
Apart from that, Dettori’s career high was when he landed seven races in the 1996 Ascot, but that glorious record was faded when he ended a Derby drought after 15 attempts, when he won it with Peter Chapple-Hyam trained, Authorzed in 2007.
It was a brilliant victory, as he took the horse form the famous Tattenham corner from 10th position, and led the lot with 2 furlongs out. He topped that great performance by winning the French equivalent Prix du Jockey Club over Lawman the very next day.
