Frankie Edgar: I am the greatest underdog in the history of UFC – UFC news
Frankie Edgar, the current UFC lightweight champion who will defend his title against Ben Henderson, says that he is the greatest underdog in the history of Ultimate Fighting Championship and he will strive hard to nail Ben to successfully defend his title
for the fourth time in a row.
Frankie and Ben are considered extreme brawlers in UFC. Edgar is even accredited by UFC President Dana white as the second best brawler in the whole of UFC after Anderson Silva and Ben as the most lethal submission specialist the promotion has ever witnessed.
The duo is scheduled to put up an epic show at Saitama Super Arena in Japan and will fight to decide the rightful owner of the UFC lightweight title. The pay-per-view will be co-headlined by the brawl between Quinton Jackson and Ryan Bader. Frankie recently
gave an interview and stated that he is ready to nail any man who stands against him in the octagon.
When asked to comment about being the least favourite against Ben, Frankie, simply said that he is known by all as the greatest underdog and it is because of just one reason, the ability to find a way to win the bout no matter how grave the situation is.
Edgar remarked, “I am the underdog most of the time and I find ways to win, so it really doesn’t matter. It’s only someone’s opinion ... The more I win, the more respect I’m going to get. That’s always the plan.”
Frankie who successfully nailed B. J. Penn twice by unanimous decision said that when you enter the octagon it is not just about working hard. A bout includes more than that one has to be smart enough to outwit and counter the opponent’s moves and when you
have a man like Ben standing against you, one has to keep his eyes and brains open.
Edgar, ‘The Answer’, said, “I’ve got to be ready to fight five very, very hard rounds. But it’s not always about fighting the hardest. You got to fight smart, too. You’ve got to find a balance in between all that.”
Frankie has been in a total 16 brawls and has lost just one against Gray Maynard. Ben, the Smooth submission specialist has won 15 brawls out of a total 17.
The pay-per-view will be a special extended four-hour edition and will be televised on February 25, 2012.
