Frankie Edgar on the verge of making some important decisions – UFC News
Following his UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II decision, Frankie Edgar feels disappointed with himself. The former lightweight champion is trying to recover from the loss, emotionally and physically, and wants to take out some time to stay away from the sport.
“I'm going to give myself a week to kind of just let all the emotions go away, just relax and enjoy my family and then sit down probably Sunday with my team and everyone else and just start bouncing some ideas around,” said Edgar to Sherdog’s It’s Time radio
show with Bruce Buffer, when asked if he is thinking of switching the division or not.
There are speculations suggesting the former UFC lightweight champion is looking forward to switch his division, probably moving down in weight. However, nothing has been confirmed by Edgar or his camp.
“Forty-five is a possibility. The 145-pound belt is definitely a prestigious belt to go after, especially with Jose Aldo at the helm of it all,” he added.
“I think a lot of 145-pounders are probably bigger than me down at that weight class anyway. They probably walk around heavier than I do. I don't think making the weight would be too much of a problem.”
It should be noted here that President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and others have time and again regarded Edgar as a small fighter for 155 pounds. However, Edgar still managed to rule the division, secure the belt and defeat top-notch fighters
such as Gray Maynard and BJ Penn.
For now, it is not certain if Edgar is planning to move down or not. However, considering the fact that he will not be getting a title shot anytime soon, it would be sensible for him to move to a lower division to get a belt.
Edgar lost to Henderson at UFC 150 via split decision. Although the former champion dominated Henderson for three rounds, he was still not awarded victory, a decision that soon became controversial. Henderson was selected as the winner by the judges, considering
he was more dominant in the ring, even though he just won two rounds.
