Frankie Edgar still holding onto his rematch against Benson Henderson – UFC News
Frankie Edgar, who holds 14 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie in MMA and 9 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie in UFC, is still holding onto his demand for a rematch against Benson Henderson, the fighter who took his title. Even though Dana White has previously stated that
he wants Edgar to move down to the featherweight division to challenge Jose Aldo, Edgar says he does not plan on moving down.
He said, “I don't think going out on a loss, especially one that close – it's just not my style, I guess you could say.”
Edgar wants to fight Henderson, the man who defeated Edgar with a unanimous decision in February at UFC 144. According to Edgar, fans and analysts, the decision was just and that a rematch should be made so that both the fighters can get the chance to square
it. Henderson, who stands with 16 wins and 2 losses in MMA and 4 wins and 0 loss in UFC, has said nothing about the possibility of the rematch.
When Edgar was asked about the decision, he said, “That's in the past. I'm getting a rematch, and I got what I wanted, so it is what it is. We'll look back at the fight and see what we can improve on, but I'm looking toward the future and trying to get ready
for that."
He further added, “I always put my opponents on a pedestal, and I did that with Ben, and he proved himself. He showed up and fought a great fight, and that's what I expect out of him.”
When asked about the venue, Edgar said that if he gets the choice to decide he would the rematch to be take place in North America. He added that way he would have less things to worry about and get ready for but he will whatever the UFC wants him to do.
The UFC has not yet decided whether the rematch will happen or not. However, Edgar is fully confident that by August or September he will get the shot. If the match happens, it will be Henderson’s first title defence.
