Frankie Gavin eyeballing Junior Witter after pinning Laszlo Komjathi in fifth round – Boxing News
Frankie Gavin, the former WBO Intercontinental welterweight champion, spellbound the whole boxing world when he nailed the heavily experienced veteran Hungarian proud Laszlo Komjathi, the former Hungary welterweight champion, in the fifth round of the eight-round
bout held on May 25, 2012.
The ring for the bout was set up at Newport Leisure Centre situated in Newport, Wales, United Kingdom and the event was promoted by Frank Warren. The above non-title bout co-headlined the pay-per-view and the showdown was headlined by the Commonwealth (British
Empire) featherweight championship bout between Lee Selby and Patrick Okine.
Gavin, 26, was seriously outclassed by Laszlo’s experience but still defied all the odds and pounded the veteran so much that he decided to throw in the towel in just the fifth round.
Frankie, basically a southpaw, was entering in his career’s 13th bout and boasted an undefeated streak. The young Briton has never lost even a single bout and was coming from a convincing rather intimidating win over more experienced Kevin McIntyre.
Moreover, in this very short time Gavin has collected three apex divisional titles. In addition, Gavin is a knockout specialist who has nailed 10 of his opponents by sheer raw powered KO jabs.
Komjathi, 36, his Friday night opponent, was in his 86th bout and for some reason has not yet decided to hang his gloves. The Hungarian veteran has a heavily tarnished resume as he has collected 40 losses alongside 43 wins.
Also known as The Rock’, Laszlo has collected just 16 wins by knockout. The only one thing that gave an upper hand to the Hungarian orthodox was experience otherwise it was Frankie who was in the game from the very first second.
With an impressive win ratio, knockout proficiency and a position in the top 50 rank as compared to Laszlo’s 454, it was evident that Gavin will rise at the occasion. From the start of the bout, the clash seemed to be a one-sided sparring session as Frankie
almost obliterated Laszlo by his agility and heavy jabs.
Laszlo was unable to cater Gavin’s speed and hardly connected any substantial damage inflicting hooks. After collecting an impressive win over Laszlo, Gavin commented, “I am ready to fight him. I am the mandatory now. Purdy had his chance and he got beat
easy by Lynes. So If I don’t get Witter, I want a final eliminator but I want Witter.”
Gavin is now eye balling Junior Witter for his BBBC British welterweight title. It must be kept in mind that it was Witter who first called on Frankie but due to some personal reasons, the Briton lad was unable to accept the challenge.
After this emphatic win Gavin is now demanding a title bout with Witter and stated, “He’s been calling me out and now I am calling him out, so let’s get it on.” Frankie now boasts an undefeated 13-bout streak and Laszlo has, on the other hand, collected
his 41st career defeat.
