Frankie Minoza returns to action at ICTSI Philippine Open – Asian Tour News
The legend golfer of Philippines, Frankie Minoza will once again be in action at the ICTSI Philippine Open which starts from next week, Thursday. The four-day championship will be hosted by the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Manila.
Minoza will be in action on his home course when he will once again look to capture the second title of Philippine Open. He has won this championship two times. His first victory came in 1998 and the second came almost four years back where he won
by two strokes over Gerald Rosales.
The 51-year-old veteran has not been playing much on the Asian Tour. He has an opportunity now in this tournament to become the oldest player to win on the Asian Tour circuit. The veteran will certainly hope to achieve this milestone in his career.
Frankie has a total of seventeen wins in his career as a professional. Seven of his victories came while he was playing on the Japan Golf Tour.
This year, the sponsors have sent a special invitation to the veteran who has accepted it. This will be the 95th edition of Philippine Open which will be played from May 12. It will be a four-day event which will carry total prize-money
of US$300,000.
The local lad, Angelo Que, Artemio Murakami and Elmer Salvador will be also among the participants representing the host country. The in-form Rick Gibson andYeh Chang-ting of Chinese Taipei will also be featuring in this championship.
The youngster, Miguel Tabuena, who has been playing exceptional golf, will also show his class. He already has performed well during the tournament he played and is hoping to mark his maiden win playing on Asian circuit. Tabuena is a teenager and is
loaded with talent. He can certainly be a top contender to win this tournament.
Minoza has a chance as he will play on one of his favourite courses. He can break the previous record of being the oldest winner on Asian Tour, which is currently held by Choi Sang-ho of Korea. Choi won a title at the age of 50 years, when he emerged
victorious at Maekyung Open played in Korea.
Frankie is considered among the legend players of Philippines. There will certainly be a huge crowd which will watch their favourite player play on the home soil after a long time. Currently, the veteran is playing on the Champions Tour in USA.
Que has loads of experience playing on the Asian Tour. The 32-year-old will certainly be the favourite player to win this championship. He has won three times playing on the Asian Tour and is hoping to add another one to his career.
Que about participating in this event said, “It is always nice when a tournament is sanctioned by the Asian Tour. You have a stronger field but the Filipinos have a better chance of winning here for sure.”
The tournament will surely produce some excitement as all the top ranked players from Asia will be competing in this tournament.
