Please help me with an assignment on FDR. I need to know what political experience FDR had before he was president and i need five interesting facts about his pre-adult years please if you find give me the link to the website you found the answer at

  1. He had polio and wore leg braces.  He was later confined to a wheelchair and the press never took pictures of him in the wheelchair or in his leg braces.  He was the first President to fly overseas when he went to the Yalta conference.


  2. he was a state senator in the state of new york. and also he was a vice president under president Harding.. and he was the assistant  secretary of the navy.

  3. FDR served in the New York Senate (1910-1913).  He was Assistant Secretary of the Navy under Woodrow Wilson(1913-1920).  Nominated for Vice President in 1920 election but lost.  He was Governor of New York (1928-1932).

    Theodore Roosevelt was his hero and the reason he entered politics.

    Theodore Roosevelt was his fifth cousin.

    His wife Eleanor was Theodore Roosevelt's niece making her Franklin's fifth cousin.  Her maiden name was also Roosevelt.

    He had private tutors instead of going to school until he was 14.

    His father died when he was 18.

    1. Served in the New York State legislature as a State

         Senator

    2. Assistant Secretary of the Navy during World war 1.

    3. Ran for Vice president in 1924.

    4. Governor of New York 1928-1932.

      Pre Adult:

      1. was Home schooled until he went to College.

      2 Very close to his mom, he was an only child, who was very

          domineering, Elandor did not like his mom but his mom

         was not to keen on her either. A lot of US presidents came from strong moms, weak dads--Washington, FDR, Nixon for example.

      3. As a very young boy, 5 years old, Roosevelt visited ,then  

         president ,Grover Cleveland who liked young Franklin

        and made a wish that if he were lucky he would never be

        stuck with becoming president. Grover was wrong.

      4. FDR always believed that fortune was going to smile on

          him. He learn taxidermy and collect birds. Whwn he saw a rare winter bird, a winter wren, he went to get his gun. His mother said the bird would be gone by the time he got back.

    FDR just smiled and told her the bird would wait for him The bird did.

       5. James Roosevelt, FDR's dad, had a heart attack when FDR was 9 years old and for the next 10 years FDR protected his dad and helped his dad out. He saw the need for families to protect and help each other. When he became president he saw the American people as his family, that was where the New Deal Ideas were formulated.
