Franklin Gacal: Manny Pacquiao might go for Timothy Bradley – Boxing News
Manny Pacquiao’s legal adviser Franklin Gacal has revealed that the former WBO welterweight titlist is looking forward to a rematch against the current WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. Gacal’s statement has come in at a very crucial, just when
Bob Arum flew to the Philippines to meet the Filipino star to decide his fate.
When asked as to whom will Pacquiao settle down for, Gacal stated, “I think it is Bradley.”
Pacquiao currently has a bunch of opponents he can fight, such as Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather, Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez. While Bob Arum is hoping for the former champion to settle for either Juan Manuel Marquez or Miguel Cotto, Gacal believes
Pacquiao is more inclined towards a title rematch against Bradley.
“There's a score to settle with Bradley,” added Gacal.
Pacquiao lost his WBO title to Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas via controversial split decision. Even though Pacquiao was way below his mark against Bradley, most analysts, fans and fellow fighters believe the Filipino won the show.
“It's August. If he fights in November, he has to start training next month,” said Gacal when asked about Pacquiao’s training camp.
Arum will be meeting up with Pacquiao to decide the Filipino’s next opponent. The Pac-man is scheduled to fight on November 10 but his opponent has not been decided yet.
During their last meeting, Pacquiao asked Arum for a match against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather. However, Arum declined Pacquiao’s request saying the unbeaten American is in jail and during his absence no one can assure them of a match.
To Arum’s surprise, Mayweather was released from jail earlier than expected. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail but he was released after two months considering his good behaviour. Therefore, the chances of a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather super bout have once
again popped up.
Arum has also indicated towards the possibility of a rematch against Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. Pacquiao defeated Cotto in 2008 via unanimous decision and they both never went for a rematch. Thus, Arum believes there is a strong chance of both the men
hitting hard once again.
