Franklin Lawrence: Mike Mollo lacks inside game – Boxing News
Franklin Lawrence, the former WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) heavyweight champion, bashed his Friday night opponent, Mike Mollo, and remarked that Mike does not know how to fight as he has no game in his arms adding that I will soon collide with
one of the two Klitschko Brothers.
Franklin will take on Mike Mollo in a 10-round bout with vacant NABA heavyweight title up for grabs. The duo will headline the showdown and the ring for the bout will be set up at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino situated in Dover, Delaware, United States.
The showdown will be co-headlined by the non-title eight-round bout between Michael Stewart and Christopher Fernandez and the night will also witness Jackie Trivilino take on Ronica Jeffrey in a bout for the NABF featherweight title.
Franklin and Mike recently shared their thoughts in a media interaction about each other and literally adopted a seriously insolence and harsh stance. Franklin, 36, has been in a total 21 bouts and boasts 17 wins.
The world number 10 heavyweight has nailed 12 of his opponents by knockout and is considered as decent pound-for pound pugilist. The American orthodox Lawrence has lost just two bouts in his career and since his last loss to Oliver McCall, is on a five-bout
win streak.
Also known as ‘Yah-Yah’, Franklin is coming from a second round technical knockout win over heavily experienced Raymond Ochieng. During the press conference, Franklin in a stiff and almost disrespectful manner stated, “Mike Mollo can’t fight. He just swings
wildly. The guy has no inside game and he is not ready for me. He doesn’t do anything textbook but I will give him credit because he does take a good beating.”
His Friday night opponent, Mike, 32, has been in a total 24 bouts and emerged victorious in 20. He has also collected 12 of his wins by knocking the opponent out cold and has a slight upper hand as far as the experience is concerned.
Mollo is making a comeback after the time lapse of almost 21 months. Mike last collided with Gary Gomez and collected a draw decision in his favour since then he has not returned the ring and this will be his first bout after such a long time.
Mike, while sharing his thoughts in reply to Franklin’s boastful talk, remarked, “Not only am I going to win but I will win in spectacular fashion. I have been putting in the hard work and have been in training camp for ten weeks.”
The bout will be a tough one and since Mike is rusty at the moment this facet will give an upper hand to Franklin. The odds are mostly in favour of Lawrence but if Mollo rattles Franklin he might make his return a memorable one.
