Franklin Templeton Shootout final round
Kenny Perry and Sean O'Hair continued their excellent run of form and carded yet another magnificent round on Sunday to win the Franklin Templeton Shootout.
Perry became the oldest player to win the tournament at the age of 52. Perry has been a previous winner of the tournament but with different pairs. He last won this event in 2005 with John Huston and in 2008 with Scott Hoch.
The team carded a 12-under on Sunday to take their overall score to a 31-under. However, they faced stern challenge from a much less strong team of Charles Howell III & Rory Sabbatini.
Once again, Perry and Sean were hot on the back nine as they carded five birdies on the last six holes.
"I knew they were going to probably catch up to us at some point, but I knew we had holes to catch back up to them," Perry said. "You cannot really get too far ahead of yourself out there in that field. You just kind of play each hole".
The duo Howell and Sabbatini also led a late charge on the back nine. They shot a 15-under 57 in the scramble round format, but just fell one stroke short of Perry and Sean.
"We played really well and gave ourselves a lot of opportunities," Sabbatini said.
"We put a good number up there and that is all we can really do. We had a lot of fun and Charles hit the ball fantastically".
First-round’s leaders Davis Love III and Brandt Snedeker could not shoot a low round. They carded a 10-under for the day and finished T4.
"We put the ball in the fairway all day, but never really got close into the greens," Love said.
Jason Dufner and Vijay Singh finished T3 after they carded a 13-under on Sunday.
Perry and Sean became only the seventh team in the last twelve year to win the tournament after leading the second round.
Their recipe for success was that they held their nerves in tight situations, there were teams making a charge but they never lost their cool.
Their victory at the Franklin Templeton Shootout means that they will get $750,000 to split between them.
