Franklin Templeton Shootout round one
Franklin Templeton Shootout is well under way at the Tiburón Golf Club. The team of Davis Love III and Brandt Snedeker led the tournament after their first-round heroics of a ten-under 62.
The US Ryder Cup captain and his pick, Brandt Snedeker, shot a magnificent round of a ten-under in Modified Alternate Shot scoring.
The duo carded a bogey-free round, scoring ten birdies to take a two-shot lead going into Saturday’s second round. Trailing them is the team of Sean O'Hair & Kenny Perry who shot eight-under for the day.
Davis Love III decided to partner the FedEx Cup champion due to his popularity among his colleagues.
Snedeker was also excited about playing with Love, and prior to this tournament, he had heard much of Love and his strokes.
"For the first time in my career, I got to feel like what it's like to be Davis Love, to hit from some of his tee shots, and hit from some of his beautiful iron shots on these par 3s, and realize how the game is supposed to be played," Snedeker said.
Love was in a hot form today as he pounded birdie after birdie. It seemed as if Davis was using Snedeker’s putter as he made some astonishing puts on Friday.
"We both played well and both made a few putts, but we both drove it well," Love said.
"I think that was the key. We were picking which drive on every hole we wanted to use rather than one guy being out of the hole and struggling".
The highlight of the day was when Love holed a thirty foot putter on the third-hole. The Americans finished their really well as they posted birdies on 10, 12, 14, 15 and 17th hole.
Kenny Perry and Sean O'Hair showed some promising signs on the course. They are just two strokes behind the US Ryder Cuppers and a good round on Saturday will surely make things interesting, given that all the teams are extremely competitive.
The defending champions Keegan Bradley and Brendan Steele could not get off to a good start as they carded a five-under. They might not have made as good a start as they would have liked, but certainly, they are a force to reckon with in this tournament.
