Franklin Templeton Shootout round two
American duo Brandt Snedeker and Davis Love III could not maintain their position atop the leaderboard. US Ryder Cuppers carded seven-under on a day when every other team was shooting more than that.
The pair of Sean O'Hair & Kenny Perry shot the best score of the tournament so far as they took ascendency, reaching atop the leaderboard. Sean and Perry carded eleven-under on Saturday, to go nineteen-under for the tournament.
"It was amazing," said Perry. "We come back right out of the hopper and birdie the last five holes".
It was a late start on Saturday due to some heavy rains.
Perry and Sean currently lead the tournament by two strokes, they played superbly as a team. Both of them complemented each other nicely.
They were slow to get on the leaderboard, in fact it was their performance on the back nine that helped them attain this score. The duo shot five birdies on the last six holes to go eleven-under for the day.
"We got pretty hot," O'Hair said. "Kenny did a great job when I wasn't in the hole ... then I did a pretty good job when Kenny wasn't in the hole".
On the back nine, they played some excellent short game, and one of the highlights of the day came from O'Hair as he birdied the 13th hole with the help of a magnificent chip.
The tournament is now there for the taking, another excellent round on Sunday will do the trick for Sean and Perry.
"You have to keep your momentum," O'Hair said.
On the other hand, overnight leaders Davis Love III and Brandt Snedeker shot a 65. It was not a very good score, considering the way others were performing at the course on Saturday.
"Finally started making some birdies and we had to stop," Love said. "We had a rough par 5 when we came back and didn't make a birdie".
It seems that defending champion Keegan Bradley and Brendan Steele are out of contention. The duo carded a brilliant round of 64 as they went thirteen-under for the tournament. A mammoth effort and some luck will be required for them to successfully retain
their title.
