The Bayern Munich legend has showered praise on the French winger after his match-winning performance against Schalke at the weekend.
Franz Beckenbauer reckons that Franck Ribery was outstanding on the night against Schalke as he inspired his side to a much needed win. Bayern emerged as 2-0 winners against the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues on Sunday, February 26, at the Allianz
Arena courtesy of a brace from Ribery. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international scored a goal in each half to secure all three points for his side.
The praise came days after Ribery refused to shake hands with his manager, Jupp Heynckes, following his 71st minute substitution in the UEFA Champions League game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079. The winger was heavily criticised for
this act but has turned things around in his favour after leading his side back to the second spot with a win against Die Knappen.
Beckenbauer opined that Ribery seems more comfortable playing on the left side and should be used at his favoured position. He also expressed his delight at Ribery’s current form in the Bundesliga. The player has found the net
on 10 occasions and is the second highest goalscorer for the side behind Mario Gomez.
While talking to tz-online, the former defender further added:
"He's a phenomenon. How can it happen that he runs so much? His style of play is such that it should be exhausting: he is constantly in duels. And it was seen that so many attacks went down the left. This is a sign that it's where
he plays best. He does decidedly more running on the left as opposed to the right."
On the other hand, the 66-year-old also expressed his satisfaction on Arjen Robben’s current form. He stated that the Dutchman showed glimpses of brilliance against Schalke which is an encouraging sign both from the player’s and
club’s perspective.
"There were a couple of situations where he tried to bring his team-mates into play when it would have been better for him to try to finish himself. But he is an experienced guy and he will find the middle ground again soon," Beckenbauer
concluded.
Bayern are currently second in the Bundesliga standings with 48 points, four behind current leaders, Borussia Dortmund.
The Reds will next face Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, March 03, at the BayArena.
