With complications growing day by day in the game of football, the offside rule has become the recent point of criticism from the former players. One of football’s greatest ever players, Franz Beckenbauer, has urged FIFA to immediately take action on this
‘stupid’ offside rule in order to eradicate further complications.
Beckenbauer believes that the game could get easier for both the players and officials with removal of the current offside rule. He advised FIFA to revert back to the old system, where the decision-making was quite simple.
The legendary sweeper also blamed FIFA for increasing number of controversies in the game. The 66-year-old talked about players being unaware of the new rule in spite of it being in use for the past many years.

He told that a task force is working on making proposals for FIFA and hoped to witness a change in the coming months.
While talking to reporters on this offside rule, Beckenbauer further added, "The group discussed the interpretation of Law 11 regarding active and passive offside. The chairman asked the task force members to come up with suggestions for a clear, understandable
rule by the time of the group's next meeting."
He concluded the remarks by saying, "We have a situation with active and passive offside at the moment. I think we should stay away from complicated expressions, we should go back to making it more simple, not like it was at the beginning but somewhere in
between."
The legendary defender recorded 427 league appearances for Bayern during his 13-year stay at Allianz-Arena. He made 103 international appearances for West Germany, bagging 14 goals in return.
