Franz Beckenbauer claims that Manchester City are not amongst the best clubs in the world
German legend, Franz Beckenbauer has come forth and claimed that Manchester City are anything but a great team.
Beckenbauer has gone on to compare the team to other great clubs and feels that City still have a long way to go, before they can truly make a name for themselves on the global stage.
He went on to claim that despite being a good team, City were in no way near Real Madrid or Manchester United, as the two teams have such a rich history, which City are going to take years to replicate.
"We should not forget that although Manchester City are a good club and are stronger than many Bundesliga sides, they're not a great team like Real Madrid or Manchester United," Beckenbauer wrote in his column in Bild.
However, Beckenbauer’s criticism was not limited to just Manchester City, as he also talked about their Champions League opponents and claimed that Bayern Munich were in no way close to being as good as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
"Bayern are definitely not of the same level as Barcelona just yet. Claiming that would be a big exaggeration. Barcelona have won so many titles in the past few years, while we were relatively anonymous during those years."
It is very hard to argue with Beckenbauer over his comments about City, as the club have only now started to reach the status that United and Madrid have achieved on numerous occasions in the past.
City went on to win their first trophy in over thirty years last season and that just goes to show, that the team has very little to no history at the moment.
However, that being said, what can’t be taken away from the club is the fact that they are working really hard to make a name for themselves and the way they have been playing this season, City are more than likely to cause a few problems in the near future.
The club are currently in their first ever Champions League competition, but are more than likely to become a regular feature on the European stage, in the coming years.
