Franz Beckenbauer insists Nils Petersen should be given a chance at Bayern Munich- Bundesliga news
Former Bayern Munich defender Franz Beckenbauer has insisted that young striker Nils Petersen should be given a chance this summer as he has the ability to shine at the highest stage and claimed that the club does not need to sign
a striker in this summer’s transfer window.
Nils Petersen signed for the Munich giants this summer for an undisclosed fee from 2. Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus and signed a three- year contract. He started off his Bayern career brilliantly as he scored a hat-trick against
Trentino Selection in a friendly clash in pre-season.
Beckenbauer insisted that there is no time left for Bayern Munich to make a signing for a striker in this summer’s transfer window. He claimed that signing a quality player at this time of the season would cost the club a lot of
money and it would not be an advantage in any sense to take the risk.
However, the Bavarian legend touted Nils Petersen to take the responsibility upfront and insisted that the player has immense talent. He stated that the young German should be given a chance to prove his credentials this season
as he had a brilliant last season in the second division.
“A signing is actually no longer on the market. Even if there were, the club would need a lot of money to take advantage of the situation. But we still have Nils Petersen, who scored 25 goals in the 2. Bundesliga, I would give
him a chance!” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former German international added that there is certainly a risk for the club if star striker Mario Gomez gets injured and is also unsure whether Nils Petersen has the potential to fill in his boots. But he still wants Bayern
to give the striker a chance this season.
“The risk is obviously evident when Gomez is injured. Whether Nils Petersen can play in that role is the question,” he concluded.
Nils Petersen scored 25 goals for Energie Cottbus last season and was 2.Bundesliga’s top goal scorer.
