Bayern Munich CEO slams FIFA president for announcing the use of goalline technology instead of two additional assistants.
Beckenbauer was talking in the wake of Bayern’s 2-1 win over Stuttgart at the Mercedes Benz Arena on Sunday, December 11, 2011.
The Bavarians earned a controversial win courtesy a brace from Mario Gomez. Olcay Sahan scored the only goal for the Swabians.
Beckenbauer congratulated his players on returning to winning ways after losing to Manchester City in the Champions League.
At the same time, the CEO has also called on the sport’s governing body for introduction of two assistant referees instead of a goal-line camera. He was of the view that a camera would only help in deciding whether the ball has
crossed the line or not. It would not be able to spot a foul inside the box which the assistant referees could easily make note of.
The use of two additional assistants is becoming more common in European competitions and Beckenbauer believes that FIFA must also ensure the same practice as it would be of great help to everyone.
While talking to Sky Sport, the former Bayern Munich sweeper further elaborated:
"Football is a simple game with simple rules. It should remain like that. The human aspect should not be ignored. They could see whether somebody fouls or pulls a jersey."
The legendary defender reflected on various controversies from the past and has urged FIFA and the DFB to work on the introduction of additional assistants.
However, the FIFA President stood by his decision of introducing a goalline camera and insisted that use of technology will be more helpful instead of having two additional assistants.
"There are systems that are so fast and can make difficult things much easier. We are at a stage where we can use such technology." He concluded.
Beckenbauer has won the German Footballer of the Year award on four occasions while he was twice nominated as Ballon d’Or winner. As a manager, the 66-year-old guided West http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 to a World Cup triumph in 1990 and helped Bayern
Munich to their 12th Bundesliga crown in 1993/1994 season.
