Franz Tost: Big reward for Toro Rosso duo, but under radar in 2011 season – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso duo, Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari, has a contract with the team until the mid of the 2011 season and team boss Franz Tost said that have to show results otherwise will be replaced immediately by Daniel Ricciardo.
Tost said that Toro Rosso prepares drivers for Red Bull Racing team which is a big reward for the drivers.
The Toro Rosso drivers had a good day in the Malaysian Grand Prix Qualifiers. Although, Buemi’s car side pod came off and induced a Red Flag on the track, but apart from that, both Toro Rosso drivers had a good outing. Both drivers were not able to qualify
for the Q3 session and finished in 12th and 13th places respectively.
Tost said that both drivers have done well so far in the season but they should show some results in the upcoming race. Tost commented that a driver in Toro Rosso should be good enough to be in the Red Bull team or otherwise their position in Toro Rosso
will be jeopardized.
“Though learning never ends in F1, Buemi and Alguersuari must prove now what they can do. Both of them improved very much over the winter - physically and mentally. But now we must see results,” said Tost.
Tost clearly stated that Daniel Ricciardo will immediately come in the scene if one of the two drivers is below expectations. Tost added that Ricciardo has made some good improvements and is waiting for his turn in the sister company of Red Bull.
Tost finally commented that the reward of performing well in Toro Rosso will guarantee a seat at Red Bull for any of the two drivers because Red Bull might be in a need for Sebastian Vettel’s teammate, if Mark Webber is left out.
“But on the other hand, RBR might have to fill a vacancy at the end of 2011, so this would be a big chance,” added Tost.
Sebastian Vettel was the first driver to go from Toro Rosso to Red Bull and has done wonders in the team.
The second race of the season starts on Sunday in Sepang and Buemi and Alguersuari will be in a fight of their own survival.
