  1. From the legal US immigrant.  It's private information.  You have to ask the insured.

There's no central database or anything where you can look it up.

But RECENT immigrants, well, it's really hard to get an insurance company willing to write a policy, if you've been here less than 5 years.  So likely they don't have it, if they haven't been here at least five years.

  2. I am assuming the person has passed away. If you have access to the person's checkbook see if there is an entry for a premium payment to a life insurance company. You could call the agent that wrote other insurance such as auto coverage. That agent might have sold the deceased a life insurance policy.

You might also try the Policy Locator Service at MIB Solutions. If you are an executor, or administrator (in cases where there have been no probate proceedings, a surviving spouse or other relative eligible for appointment may be entitled to order the report), Policy Locator can maximize your opportunity to discover life insurance benefits you may not have realized existed.

It costs $75 and covers over 150 million records representing inquiries submitted on individually underwritten life insurance applications processed during the last twelve years.
