Question:

Fraud investigation/charges?

I recently found a $9.60 charge on my credit card for "System Development" with a phone number of 8772777903. I called the credit card company and filed a complaint, but when I also called the phone number, the message requested more info but said nothing as to what company it was. Upon research on the web, I found that this has happened to other people, and it appears as if they are trying to solicit info for identity theft. My credit company has already started an investigation, but I was wondering if there was another route to file a complaint or fraud charges. The charge was very low, but at the same time, I can't imagine this happening to someone who did no research. Is there anywhere I could file charges or a complaint? I have not used this credit card in 2 years, and I only have one card and it's in a safe, so I know for sure it was not my charge.

  1. If you feel that it is deliberate fraud and not a mistake, you can call your local police.  They can start an investigation, figure out where the proper jurisdiction is and send the file to them for final prosecution.

Note: it doesn't matter what state they're in, wire fraud is a federal offense.

  2. Call the phone company and see if the 877 is in another state.  If it is the it's wire fraud and the FBI can be brought in.
