Frazier happy to see Ponder, Peterson back in training as Vikings prepare for Saints visit – NFL News
Minnesota Vikings Coach Leslie Frazier had good news to share after taking Wednesday’s training session.
The Coach was happy to say that both regular quarterback Christian Ponder and running back Adrian Peterson are in line to start against New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
"Everyone practiced pretty good today," Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said. "Adrian (Peterson) was out there. Christian (Ponder) practiced well. Both of those guys moved through full practice without any inhibition so everything
was good with both of those guys."
Both the players form the offensive spine of Minnesota Vikings and their return will raise spirits in the locker room. Quarterback Christian Ponder took part in full practice on Wednesday showing progress after recovering completely
from a hip-pointer.
The quarterback played against Detroit Lions in a 34-28 loss. Ponder did not look his usual lively self with the injury slowing his movement. Ponder threw three interceptions during the game and was sacked thrice in a poor first-half
performance, which saw the Lions take a dominant lead. The quarterback was replaced by Joe Webb in the third quarter after throwing his third interception.
"It really wasn't a benching," Frazier added. "It was just pulling him out as he was struggling with what I thought the injury was doing to his game, and that's all it was. If I thought he could do some of things that he is capable
of doing, he wouldn't have been out of the ballgame.”
Webb almost led a brilliant comeback in the second half but the Lions held on to their lead and won the game.
Running back Adrian Peterson has missed the last three games, recovering from a knee sprain sustained during a week-11 27-21 loss to Oakland Raiders. Peterson was the team’s shining light this season in a campaign that has been
less than stellar.
Coach Leslie Frazier is happy with Peterson’s progress this week as the running back took part in limited practice on Wednesday. Frazier told the assembled press pack that Peterson was in good shape and will be available for Sunday
and his injury has healed well.
The Vikings are 2-11 this season and on a six-game losing streak. With National Football Conference South leaders New Orleans Saints visiting this Sunday, the return of Ponder and Peterson may well help Vikings create a few problems
for the Saints.
