i can not recall this ever happening this bad before. These thunderstorms are comin out of no where. For the past couple weaks it would be a sunny clear day and then all of a sudden a huge sotrm that lasts about 30 minutes and then its fine. Ive lived in MD my whole life and I dont remember it bieng this quick and so loud it hurts my ears the thunder that is. It sound like a tree just got hit by lightning 10 ft away every time. Can anyone explain this or is this the begining of the end. Dont call me crazy because im not allthough a crazy person would say that.

  1. Its summer.  Thunderstorms form during the heating of the day.  What you explained is typical of what is known as "popcorn" type thunderstorms that form during the heating of the day in the mid to late summer and most of very isolated and last very shortly as they rain them selves out (the rain cools the thunderstorm and it dissipates). They don't last very long but if you are under one it can produce heavy rain and strong winds.

  2. It's because of hot weather and by pressure. The heats stops because of the thunderstorms which cools down. I hope this is not the beginning of the end. It's not the beginning of the end. Hope this helps.

  3. they are getting worse too i think..its been so hot and we had a late spring and we had some storms and a tornado ripped over my sons new home and tore the roof off,,and there was no warning or any thing,, just high wind warnings but the tornado was spotted and did touch down,,yeah its been weird honey,,

  4. i hear ya. i was just sitting in my living room minding my own bussiness and the wind started blowing really hard and golf ball sized hail started to fall and a huge tornado started ripping through the area. thank goodness it didnt hurt any one.

  5. On hot and humid days, strong afternoon storms can oftentimes develop due to all the moisture in the air. These storms can develop very quickly, i've seen a few storms develop in less than 5 minutes before. This can happen anywhere, especially if there is a cold front or other trigger mechanism available to pump in moisture.
