Question:

Freaked about contact lenses

Today I'm going to the eye doctor to get some contacts. I'm kinda nervous because the whole idea about sticking something in my eye freaks me out. Does it sting when you put it in? how do you get it out? I'm sure the doctor will answer all my questions when I get there, but still I'd like to know a little before hand.

  1. Yes the solution will sting for the first couple of times when you put them in. I felt the same way about when I got them the first time. Yes, the dr will go over everything with you. He/she will make you take them in and out a couple of time and reexamine your eyes with them in. Just remember to be patient when putting them in and taking them out. Once you're use to them, you'll never go back to your glasses.

  2. hey !

im 16, and have been using contacts for 3 years now !

Ive been wearing glasses since i was 7.

Dont be scared ! Its not worth it, you dont need to be! i was a wit wearie at first, but honestly its okay. Your optician is a proffesional, and will only do things if he knows its the right thing, you are in safe hands.

the first few times it doesnt sting, you may just have a big reaction to it, like a reflex if you get me?

sometimes it stings when i put mine in, but tahts because i may have dirty hands or have something on them, or even my contacts been in the open air for too long.

to get them out you just hold up your top lashes  in one hand, look up, and using the other had pinch the lense and lift out,

Dont worry about it atall ! there a god send ! really they are.

I hope this helped, anything else just ask, hope you get on okay!

DOnt worry, youll be fine !

    love kirsty

  3. if your scared, dont get them!

it can sting if your hands arent clean or you put it in wrong.  just make sure that you put it on in front of the doc.  that way he can help/correct you.   sometimes it takes a lil while to get used to it.   dont take your time, just put them in. the more you fuss , the more aggravated you will make your eyes.

  4. I don't feel the solution stinging. It feels odd but not painful. I can't get contacts in or out. i've been several times but cannot do it.

  5. I remember when I first got contact lenses. I have a very strong blink reflex and they had to literally pull my eyelids apart to get them in. Getting them out was far easier.

The store where I got them did not let me have them until I could put them in and take them out on my own, so the advice I was given was to go away and practice touching my eyeball. Basically I was told to go and poke myself in the eye :)

After a while practising it got easier and after a while it was no problem. The solution they are in is salt water (saline) so it stings a bit not not too badly.

Contacts are great. I remember walking along one night and looking at the city and realising that for the first time in my life I could see perfectly. No blurring, no droplets of water on the lens, etc.

It will be hard at first, but persevere!
