Question:

Freaked out about wisdom teeth?!?

I am just utterly freaked about the whole shebang. But here are my more pin-pointed concerns:

+They want to give me laughing gas before the IV. But what happens if you are scared of the laughing gas?!? lol I hate the whole breathing into a mask thing and "Warm & Tingly" and giggly? That kind of freaks me out.

+If I DID go with laughing gas before the IV, will it be worn off by the time the procedure is done and I wake up?

+When you wake up, are you all groggy and dizzy and stuff? Do you know what's going on? Is it scary?

+How long do you have to stay in the office after you wake up? (Or should I say, how long does it take for you to fully wake up from the anesthesia?)

+The doctor says they put a little anti-nausea medicine into the anesthesia to help with, well, nausea after the procedure. Is throwing up common afterwards? B/C I am freaked out to throw up!

+Do you have a lot of gauze in your mouth when you wake up? Is it enough to make you gag?

I know I sound like a freak asking all of these questions, but I just want another source for answers. Thanks so much!

  1. its normal to be scared when u get ur wisdom teeth out. but the main thing is to not worry and let the doctors do their job. they know hwta their doing and thers no reaosn to think ur gunna wake up and suffocate bc one of them forgot a peice of gauze in ur throat.

the anestisia isnt that big of a deal. they put u under it bc it would be mind blowingly painfulw ithout it. it varies from person to person how you are affected after coming awake . some ppl react badly and some people are totally obliviosu to the after affects. the main point is that you cant control how you react to the after affects of the laughign gas or anestisia. you might feel groggy after waking up and this is normal too. they dont keep you long and the only bad thing is the minor ache you feel. dont worry about it too much or you will freak out. the laughign gas isnt soemthignt o be worried about. if you jsut go along with what the doctor says you will be perfectly fine and might even enjoy the feel good affects of the gas

jsut stay cool and relaxed and youll be perfectly fine

  2. my cuzin got a buncha teeth pulled out... my aunt said he was just laghing like an idiot the whole time! lol

  3. Hey, don't worry!  Seriously... the concern you feel now is the worst of it!  The laughing gas will make you feel better... it won't totally do away with your nerves, but it will make you more relaxed.

When you wake up, you will probably feel sleepy and cold, but there won't be any pain.  They will lead you to another room and usually let you rest for a few minutes while they speak with your caretaker.  You'll just feel like you woke from a deep sleep... a little dazed.  You may have trouble standing up or walking for the first fifteen minutes, but then you should be fine.

The gauze is a little gross... especially the taste of blood.  It will feel very wet and warm in your mouth, and the taste is very gross.  The worst part is putting the gauze in, but once it is inserted you don't need to worry about triggering a gag reflex... the main problem is the taste.  And there won't be huge pieces of gauze... there are two small sheets, folded, about 1/2" by 1", inserted in the back of your mouth.  You'll barely feel them.

The pain isn't too bad... just make sure you stay up on your medicine.  It will hurt a bit the first few times you eat or drink, but it's really just a little bit of stinging... kind of like jumping into a pool of cold water.

    Good luck!

  4. There's no reason to be scared of laughing gas. It just relaxes you and your mind starts to wander.

The laughing gas will be worn off before you wake up. When you wake up you will most likely have no idea what's going on. I woke up in a different room then I fell asleep in and the first thing out of my mouth was "Where the F**K am I?" It was a little confusing at first.

I woke up, they said I could go home, I slept in the car on the way home then just went home and slept on the couch for a few hours. The anesthetic was worn off in a few hours.

I had no problem with nausea after.

The gauze was gross, but you are pretty drowsy and you probably wont notice it too much.

Your biggest issue should be what are you going to eat? I lived on yogurt for the first day, then I switched to macaroni because it went down really easily. Best of luck!
