Freaking out about JMHS homeschool.?

Has anyone actually got their diploma and used it to go to college? I don't care if you are in it now, I only want to hear from people that graduated and are in a real college. I paid 13 hundred dollars for this and am taking the college prep diploma but heard someone say that when you go to college you have to go take your GED test.

  1. Normally colleges will not require homeschoolers to take the GED; your transcript and placement (ACT/SAT/CLEP/AP) test scores are what they look at.  Even Harvard and Stanford accept homeschool transcripts.  The only university I've heard of that may have a problem with it would be the UC system, but you can take your first year or two at a community college and transfer from there to get around that.

JMHS is legit, as is a transcript that your mom writes for you.  Colleges really couldn't care less (the vast majority of the time) about your diploma - I've never been asked to show mine.

  2. The part about a free public forum is you usually do not have much luck picking who can answer your questions.

Take me for example. I did not use this homeschool program you are talking about, but I chose to ignore your restriction and answer anyway.

You will need to contact the universities you plan on applying with and ask them what they require.

Whether they accept your transcript or not (there is a difference between a diploma and a transcript) you will still have to take entrance exams just like everyone else.

There is no blanket answer to your question. Each college and university have their own admissions standards, so for the most accurate information, talk to them.

  3. it might be a placement test.

I am in the same school.

and im bearly talke world history..

  4. I wouldn't take advice from people who have not actually used homeschool and gone to college. I have not either, but before I looked at homeschooling my own children, I looked at what it would take for them to get into college.

If you homeschool, most colleges and uni's do not want a GED, a transcript and SAT score will be all you need. GED's are actually looked at as 'drop out forms'. The colleges you want to attend, look at their admissions info online at their websites. I know seven homeschoolers who have attended colleges in my town without a diploma, using their homeschool information.

Seriously, there are over 1000 colleges who have accepted homeschoolers, most of whom have not used a cover school to get a 'diploma'.

  5. Wow!  I guess that's the difference between graduating from home school and a state run school.

    So sorry for your troubles.
