What is with that? Did the flyboys just do that to play a joke on alien conspiracists or what?

  1. There are a lot of strange structures out around those bases. While overzealous UFO enthusiasts might have some crazy ideas, these and the many other structures out there are all primarily targets for various tests. Surveying weapons accuracy and assesing damage from live ordnance is tricky sometimes and usually requires a lot of markings that you wouldn't otherwise see. Keep looking around the area and you'll find even more. Range operators use everything from dumpsters to telephone poles to simulate structures pilots will have to recognise in combat. I've heard they do an insanely good job at it, too. You'll see everything from simulated missile sites like this one to trucks and aircraft parked at fake airfields. It's a really interesting area.

  2. no.

  3. I have to agree with Jim.

First picture is of a Soviet style missile battery.  The points of the star are the launchers.  The center is the command and control facility.

Second picture I will bow to Jim for his explanation.

  4. Yeah, we have nothing more important to do:

Picture 1 is an SA2 SAM site, used for EW training, and familiarization.

Picture 2 is a nuke bullseye.  Used many moons ago for evaluating inert drops.

    Sorry to disappoint.
