Freaky Storms?

OK so i live in an area that doesn't see a lot of big storms. So it was really unusual for me to hear this morning (7/20) That a tornado touched down ten minutes from where I live! I'm just wondering has anyone else had this expirence when something happens that doesn't happen often???

I live in Rockford, IL and we had a tornado touch down a few miles out in January!  It completely demolished a local family owned Apple Orchard.  We also have tornado warnings all the time but nothing ever happens, but maybe a thunder storm followed by a flood watch.
