Fred Couples to lead US team at 2013 Presidents Cup
Fred Couples has been selected as the captain of the United States team once again for the mega event of the Presidents Cup.
The Presidents Cup is played every two years and staged by the Professional Golf Association Tour. The US is the current leader and also the dominating team of this tournament.
A total nine events have been played on different golf courses and the US has a remarkable lead, winning seven.
The Internationals were only successful in 1998, when they scored 20½ and won the tournament by a massive lead of nine.
In 2011, Couples was the captain of the US Team and Greg Norman was leading the International Team. The tournament was played at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia.
The next Presidents Cup is scheduled in 2013 and will be at the amazing venue of Muirfield Village Golf Club. This course will be hosting this tournament for the first time ever.
This news was revealed by the PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem. Finchem said, “I think I have a very good shot at it, and I would love to do it again”.
The captain of the International Team has been changed. Now Nick Price is going to lead the twelve-player squad. The change may benefit the golfers of the world, teaming up to defeat the Americans.
Price is a 55-year-old South African-Zimbabwean professional golfer. He waited a long time for this honour and has finally achieved it for the 2013 episode.
He is the 18-time winner of the PGA Tour events and has managed to finish 50 tournaments on top of the leaderboard.
He was the most deserving contender for captaincy. Finchem observed it and made him the captain for the upcoming episode.
The popularity of this mega tournament is at its peak. However, the US domination may be the worst part of it.
In every two years, only Americans were able to be on top. The International Team has long been seeking to defeat them.
Fred Couples is the most competent captain for the US Team and under his captaincy, the Americans have won two times.
The change in captaincy of the International Team and a new venue may help the non-US players outshine the Americans in 2013.
