The 31-year-old midfielder started his professional career at GelreDome Stadion in the 1998/99 season. He played over 200 league matches for the Arnhem-based club during his 10-year stay before moving to FC Twente Enschede in the summer of 2008.
The Dutch international represented the Tukkers in 86 league matches, and played an integral role in the Enschede giants’ first Eredivisie triumph in the 2009/10 season.
His consistent performances tempted Ajax boss, Frank de Boer, to lure him to Amsterdam Arena in the summer of 2011. However, after spending only a season with the Amsterdam giants, the veteran midfielder has moved back to the club from where he started his
professional career.
Rutten has expressed his delight at the arrival of the talented midfielder, and has admitted that his experience will certainly boost his side’s chances of winning silverware this term.
“It is wonderful for the club and the supporters that Theo is back. Of course, it took a long time, but I knew all along the way that he will complete his move to Vitesse before the summer transfer window slams shut. I remained in touch with Merab Jordania
all the time, and we both were very positive about his arrival. Everyone is extremely delighted now”, the Dutch trainer was quoted as saying to soccernews.nl.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven boss went on to insist that the midfielder’s experience will help the young players in his squad, while admitting that he can surely become a key player for Vitesse.
“Theo has been playing in the Dutch top tier for quite some time now, and he has brought wealth of experience in our squad. He can surely help this team to achieve better results, and compete for silverware”, Rutten concluded.
Janssen has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at GelreDome Stadion until the summer of 2015.
