Fred Rutten: I cannot prevent Erik Pieters’ transfer to Newcastle United – Dutch Eredivisie news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven head coach, has revealed that he cannot stop Erik Pieters’ move away from Philips Stadion as a transfer to Newcastle United looks imminent. The Dutch trainer has clearly indicated that the deal would be finalised in the coming
days as the two parties are gaining momentum in negotiations.
The 23-year-old joined the Boeren in the summer of 2008 following his move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Utrecht-c39237. The Dutch International has so far made well over 50 appearances with the Eindhoven giants. His performances excelled in the 2010/11 campaign, where he attracted
interest from a host of European clubs including the Magpies.
The Dutch stopper is reportedly interested in joining the English Premier League outfit before the summer transfer window slams shut.
Rutten clearly stated that he strongly wishes to prevent the left-stopper from moving away but admitted that he cannot stop it.
“I would lie in the road to stop him leaving, but I fear I cannot stop his transfer to Newcastle. Pieters has developed into a first-team regular with PSV and is a member of the Holland squad. It would be a shame if he left us, because I know what our team
needs. But if it is right for him and the club from a financial point of view, I cannot say no”, the Dutch trainer was quoted as saying in the media.
The defender has an ongoing contract with the Boeren but reports indicate that an offer in the region of six million Euros would be enough to lure the Dutch International away from Philips Stadion.
Meanwhile, the Boeren should search for a perfect replacement at the back before the end of the ongoing summer transfer market. Moreover, an imposing striker would also be a welcome addition.
