Freddie Freeman helps the Atlanta Braves with a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies – MLB Update
Freddie Freeman homered twice on Monday, July 4 to help the Atlanta Braves beat the Colorado Rockies 4-1 at Turner Field.
Tommy Hanson remained invulnerable and threw seven innings to perfect the victory for the Braves.
However, it was Freeman who drove in three runs to frustrate the Rockies’ defence. "It's just one of those things," Freeman said. "I feel like I'm doing the same thing. I just want to go out there and execute the game plan and worry about our team.”
The first encounter of the four-game series assumed stunning significance by the aggression with which Freeman set the flow of runs in the very first inning. Once Tommy Hanson threw a scoreless and hitless inning, Freeman was poised to contribute his share.
Ubaldo Jimenez, the starting pitcher of Colorado Rockies, had not perhaps strategised the game the way it was needed. The commencement of the game seemed inauspicious for him and the team as a whole.
Freddie Freeman homered to left to earn two runs for the team in an inning that saw Jimenez give up two hits. His hit gave an early 2-0 lead to the Braves. "He's been great," Gonzalez said. "For a 21-year-old young man, he's been able to compete in the major
leagues, get better and help us win ballgames."
Hanson followed by rapidly increasing fast pitches which seemed beyond play for the seemingly straining Rockies’ offence. Todd Helton was the only hitter the Rockies seemed to have in their fold to hit Hanson.
Helton singled to centre enabling Ellis to score that brought the Braves lead down to 2-1. However, Hanson did not fumble afterwards and kept ad hoc tactics that were bound to pay off as the game progressed.
Jimenez was subject to another hit in the sixth inning that helped Jason Heyward scored the Braves’ third run, doubling the lead for the team. As things gradually progressed, the Braves maintained their dominance on the game with the help of Hanson.
Freeman, who has an average of .272 in the season with 82 games, having had 79 hits and 37 runs, scored in the eighth inning to take the lead to 4-1. Freeman homered to right on a punishable pitch of Matt Reynolds.
The Braves managed to contain the Rockies’ offence, as they put in a tremendous performance on the field. The Rockies will be looking to improve their offence into scoring much needed runs.
In front of a packed crowd, the Braves performance remained par excellence, infusing the requisite confidence to proceed with aplomb in the four-game series with an early 1-0 lead now. The second game shall be played on Tuesday.
