Freddie Freeman shines as Atlanta Braves defeat Colorado Rockies 7-4 - MLB Recap
Atlanta Braves’ first baseman, Freddie Freeman was impressive with the bat as he hit three RBIs including one home-run and went 3-for-5 with an average of .278 in the Braves’ 7-4 win against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on July 18.
During the first inning of the game, the batters got out without scoring any run. Jordan Schafer was struck-out swinging and Martin Prado grounded out to short-stop position at the top of the first inning. Similarly, Carlos Gonzalez walked but Todd Helton
flied out to centre-field and Seth Smith grounded out towards second base at the bottom of the first inning.
The Braves led off with 2-0 in the second inning when Derek Lowe was saved to reach at first base on the error of Helton while Freeman and Dan Uggla both posted two runs jointly. At the top of the third inning, the Braves’ batters accelerated their lead
by exploding three runs while the Rockies also got off the mark with a single run to reduce their lead 5-1.
Freeman struck a two-run homer (446 feet) towards centre-field and Brian McCann scored one run. The third run was taken by Eric Hinske by hitting a solo homer (417 feet) to right-field. On the other hand, Helton singled off centre-field and Carlos Gonzalez
posted the first run for the Rockies.
The pitchers tossed up curveballs to remove the hitters in the fourth inning. Lowe was expensive for the Braves as he permitted four runs on eight hits in his six innings pitched. He allowed two walks by pitching the ball with an ERA of 4.37 and had just
two strike-outs on his 97 pitches.
In the fifth inning, the Braves raised their lead 6-1 when Hinske scored a single run on the drive of Alex Gonzalez towards left-field. Lowe added the final run for the Braves to extend their lead 7-1 during the sixth inning.
The Rockies rallied in the seventh inning and posted three runs to reduce their lead 7-4. Carlos Gonzalez singled off right-centre and Dexter Fowler contributed one run. Ryan Spilborghs added the second run of the seventh when Helton hit a sacrifice fly
off centre-field. The third and last run was taken by Carlos Gonzalez on the single-run shot of Troy Tulowitzki to centre-field.
After having an exciting victory, the Braves got a 1-0 lead in a four-game series at Colorado.
