Freddie Head's fourteen time Group 1 winning mare Goldikova all set for this Sunday’s Prix de la Foret at Longchamp
For this Sunday’s Prix de la Foret at Longchamp, trainer Freddie Head had options to choose from, weighing them for the best possible results. His options for this particular race included the fourteen-time Group One-winning mare, Goldikova, and her stablemate, Moonlight Cloud. The choice did not prove to be a dilemma for the trainer as trusting and picking Goldikova for the event was natural.
"Goldikova is very well and the plan is still for her to run in the Foret on Sunday”, said Freddie Head.
The horse has been ridden by Olivier Peslier ever since the beginning of September 2007.
This season she ran four times and won twice. First at Longchamp in May and then in July, she won the Deauville.
In her most recent event, she qualified as a runner-up at the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard.
In the Group 1 Prix d’lspahan, she succeeded by settling in right behind the pace setter and then gearing up to lead 1 ½ furlong out.
She was countered and challenged one furlong out but in the final furlong, specially near the final fifty yards, Goldikova had to face fierce competition which she tackled well and went through the wire before anyone else could make it.
The runner-up of the race was Cirrus Des Aigles, trained by Mme C Barande-Barbe and ridden by Christophe Soumillon.
In July, Goldikova again won the Group One Prix Rothschild, for fillies and mares, where she was confronted by trainer Rod Collet's Sahpresa.
Goldikova settled behind the pace maker as she had done earlier in May.
Shaken up to lead 1 ½ furlong out, she sped up and was clear one furlong out, ending the race very comfortably as the first one.
The race had representation from Sir Henry Cecil, that came third, and Rod Collet had another entry, Nova Hawk, who with Stephane Pasquier came seventh in the race.
The horse finishing the race in the end was again from Freddie Head’s stable, Flash Dance with Mickael Barzalona onboard.
Freddie commented further about Sunday, saying, "I am very happy with her at the moment and the ground looks like it will be on the fast side of good, which will suit her”.
