Freddie Roach: I will advise Pacquiao to retire if he looks bad against Bradley – Boxing News
While most analyst have already concluded that Manny Pacquiao is on the brink of retirement, the Pac-man never admitted it. However, now even Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, believes that Pacquiao should retire if he ‘looks bad’ in his match against Timothy
Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
In his recent interview, Roach expressed his confidence over the WBO welterweight champion hailing from the Philipines. However, Roach did say that there are chances of Bradley winning the show, and if this happens then Pacquiao should retire. Roach iterated,
“Bradley's no killer, but he tries hard. Manny should eat him up as he comes forward. I think Manny should look really good in this fight. "[But] if he [Pacquiao] looks bad, he retires. At least I'll tell him to. And he may be the first one who will listen
to me.”
Earlier this year, Pacquiao himself admitted that he wants to retire soon. The Pac-man, who recently took a religious u-turn in life, believes that God has given him enough and it is time for him to stop. Pacquiao’s exact words were, “I will not stay long
in boxing because He said: 'You have done enough. You have made yourself famous but this is harmful.”
According to Pacquiao, God told him to leave the sport because it is not right to hurt others. However, the Filipino has again and again asserted that he will fight American unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. before hanging up his gloves.
For now, Manny Pacquiao will be defending his title against Bradley this Saturday. Victory is important for Pacquiao in this event, as he needs to prove that he still has enough to take on dangerous fighters like Bradley. Earlier this week, Pacquiao admitted
that Bradley is a dangerous fighter but said that he will be ready to face whatever Bradley has to offer in the ring. When asked for a prediction, Pacquiao said that it is in the hands of God to decide who will be the winner. Pacquiao’s religious u-turn in
life has already gotten his promoter Bob Arum and coach Freddie Roach worried about his performance on Saturday.
