Freddie Roach: Manny Pacquiao has nothing left to prove – Boxing News
While most boxers and analyst think Manny Pacquiao still has a lot to prove, the Filipino’s trainer Freddie Roach thinks otherwise. According to Roach, Manny Pacquiao has proved all he had to and there is nothing else he should prove. Roach also said that
Pacquiao would defeat Timothy Bradley via knockout.
Recently, unbeaten fighter Timothy Bradley and his trainer Joel Diaz claimed that the WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao needs to prove his mettle in their upcoming bout since his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez was a failure. According to them,
even though Pacquiao won the show, he still did not overpower Marquez. Joel Diaz said, “Manny Pacquiao has a lot to prove to the world. After the last decision over Marquez he has to prove that he's still the man that's unbeatable (and) relentless. So we're
ready for that.”
As a reply to their claims, Roach said, “My fighter has nothing to prove. With his accomplishments, I don't think Manny needs to prove himself as a fighter.”
In addition, many analysts are of the view that Pacquiao has a lot on stake against Bradley than just his title. The fight is a mega-bout and Bradley is rated a 3 to 1 underdog. However, Bradley still is a tough fighter with a very unique style, which can
be troublesome for Pacquiao. If Pacquiao loses this fight, not only will he lose his title but also his reputation. He is currently considered an icon in the Philippines and therefore to protect that status, Pacquiao needs to win this fight at any cost.
For now, Pacquiao is training in Baguio City and sparring against Bradley’s clone to understand Bradley’s fighting style in detail. In his recent interview, the Filipino champion said that if Bradley tries to use his head against him, he would knock it off
with his ferocious punches.
While Bradley thinks Pacquiao is on the verge of retirement and he no longer has his stint, Roach believes in Pacquiao and knows that his fighter will knockout the American unbeaten. If this happens, it would be the very first victory of Bradley’s career.
