Freddie Roach: Manny Pacquiao is the only fighter capable of beating Floyd Mayweather – Boxing News
After his not-so-great performance against Miguel Cotto past Saturday night, most analysts are already assuming WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather done for good. If not all, at least Pacquiao’s camp is making the most of this opportunity by hitting
the unbeaten American with everything they have. In his recent interview, Manny’s trainer Freddie Roach said that the only fighter who can beat Floyd Mayweather is Pacquiao. According to Roach, Pacquiao is a consistent fighter, which makes him the only one
who can beat Floyd.
Roach said, “You bet. The way to beat Floyd is to outwork him every minute of every round. Manny is the only fighter capable of executing that game plan. Activity kills Floyd. You need to stay busy against him and not let him dictate the pace by slowing
down the fight.”
Freddie Roach’s comments came in after watching Floyd Mayweather fight Miguel Cotto. Even though Floyd won against Cotto, the latter did prove that Mayweather is not invincible after all. Cotto had put up probably the best fight of his career against Mayweather
and even Mayweather admitted this. Round eight was Cotto’s round in which he unleashed an attack of ferocious punches that made the unbeaten American bleed. By the end of the fight, Mayweather was bleeding from his nose and mouth while Cotto looked untouched.
The only problem was that Cotto’s punching power was not good enough to take down Mayweather. His defence was solid which kept him safe but because he lacked good punching power, he could not take down the American.
Floyd won the fight and grabbed Cotto’s title but not many fans were happy of Mayweather’s performance. On the other hand, Freddie Roach had predicted exactly the same outcome.
For now, Freddie Roach is training with Manny Pacquiao at his Wild Card Gym in Las Vegas. According to Roach, Pacquiao is 60% ready for his bout against Timothy Bradley, another unbeaten American fighter. Pacquiao’s first training camp was in Baguio City
on the high altitudes, where the Filipino trained with Amir Khan and Freddie Roach to gain maximum conditioning.
