Freddie Roach: Mayweather should undergo drug testing every month – Boxing News
Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao’s trainer, was irked with Floyd Mayweather’s consistent demand of getting Manny Pacquiao drug tested. Roach, who is known for his composure, lashed out on Mayweather this time saying that Mayweather should get himself drug tested
every month before advising others.
Roach said, “If he wants to drug test that’s fine, but how about we drug test Floyd every month? He preaches Olympic-style drug testing but he isn’t being tested when he isn’t in training camp.”
Mayweather, who currently holds the WBC welterweight championship, is a notorious figure in the world of boxing. His accomplishments have made him stand among the best fighters of all time but his attitude has made him controversial. Mayweather has been
consistent with attacking Pacquiao. He has targeted Pacquiao for racism as well as he has commented on his accomplishments as well. In his recent interview, Mayweather called Manny ‘not the sharpest knife in the drawer’ and then he called the Pac-man ‘someone
who has not achieved as much’.
Floyd’s comments for drug testing for Manny came in connection Pacquiao’s refusal of drug testing in the initial stages of negotiations for their bout. However, it should be noted here that Pacquiao had agreed to go for drug tests later on only if he was
offered a 50/50 split of the revenues.
On Mayweather’s comments and his drug tests, Roach said, “Nobody is testing him (Mayweather) while he isn’t training because he is off the radar. He needs to practice all of that stuff he preaches.”
He then added, “He is always bringing racism into a situation that has nothing to do with it, saying Manny won’t fight a young, black fighter,” the boxing trainer said. “I don’t care what color you are. If you’re purple, we will fight you.”
Mayweather recently made racism comments on Jeremy Lin, an NBA player. According to Mayweather, Lin is popular just because he has an Asian background. Roach and Manny along with Lin lashed out on Mayweather, saying that he needs to respect other athletes
in order to gain respect.
Freddie Roach is a Hall of Famer and is a well-known boxing trainer around the globe.
