Freddie Roach OK with Manny Pacquiao juggling duties for the time being
Manny Pacquiao’s training for his upcoming November 13 bout with Antonio Margarito will involve a few obligations that many boxers never experience. Out of the ring, he will also be organizing priority projects for his constituents in Saragani in the House
of Representatives.
On Tuesday, Freddie Roach revealed that the fighter will be juggling training with political duties. He explained that their training camp start date in Baguio City was pushed back to Thursday so that Pacquiao, a Saragani congressman, could attend to legislative
duties before getting into the ring that has made him famous.
Roach, who recently arrived in Manila to train his fighter, disclosed that he will even consent to Pacquiao bringing documents and articles from Congress to training camp to keep up to date with things.
"He will have homework with him. You know, he has time to work on that. He's a multi-tasker […] Sometimes, I like it when he needs a day off because he works so hard on training," Roach said to reporters.
"Even on some weekends, when he needs to come home, he can try to come back (to Manila) for a day. But [he will not be doing his legislative work for more than a month and a half] unless it's something urgent. There's always an exception to the case.”
An initial training session was held at the House of Representatives Gymnasium a few hours before Lower Congress went into session Monday afternoon.
Pacquiao assured his constituents and superiors in the House of Representatives that he will give them his full attention before training camp intensifies from September 23 to October 20.
'Pacman' said he has been preparing budget proposals for the public sector. The House will hold a budget hearing to consider his work Wednesday.
