Freddie Roach: Pacquiao is looking good in spots here and there – Boxing News
Manny Pacquiao, the current WBO welterweight champion, has concluded his Baguio sparring camp successfully. If not Manny, at least his coach is pretty much impressed with the Filipino’s progress. Pacquiao has sparred for 20 rounds, 4 days in total.
According to Roach, Pacquiao’s is back to his good game and that was pretty obvious during his sparring sessions. When asked, Roach said, “(Pacquiao) is looking good in spots here and there. We need to get a little more fire. The sparring partners are both
tough, mean kids. They are not going to touch gloves with him and they are going to force Manny to fight.”
Roach picked two more sparring partners for Pacquiao, who he believes are good enough for the champion to bring out his best. For now, Pacquiao has already trained with a Russian former fighter who was handpicked by Roach. Pacquiao, in his previous interview,
said that his sparring partner is Bradley’s clone since he has a somewhat similar fighting style. However, after their first training session, the supposedly clone of Bradley came out with a bruised face, which made Roach realized that he cannot take Manny
anymore.
Now, Roach has picked up more kids to go head to head to Pacquiao. Not in Baguio, but once Roach and Pacquiao reach Los Angeles, they will spar in Roach’s gym to success. Since Roach believes there is a lot more left in Pacquiao to take out, he will probably
be making Manny work hard.
Manny Pacquiao will face the unbeaten Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The Pac-Man will have his WBO welterweight title on the line. On the other hand, Timothy Bradley will have his unbeaten streak on the line. If Bradley loses, which
is quite possible, it would be his career’s first ever defeat.
Pacquiao sounds confident of taking down Bradley. Last week, Pacquiao remarked that if Bradley tries to use his head too much, he would return the favour with his ferocious punches. On the other hand, Bradley believes that defeating Pacquiao is not as difficult
as most people think and he will prove this point.
