Freddie Roach: Pacquiao was distracted before his last fight – Boxing News
While most analyst think Manny Pacquiao did not perform well against Juan Manuel Marquez in their last encounter, trainer Freddie Roach dares to differ. According to Roach, Pacquiao was distracted before the fight and therefore he could not perform the way
he was trained to. Roach says Manny was slow and ‘more human’ in his last fight since he was struggling with domestic and moral issues in his life.
Roach revealed that Manny was highly distracted in his last fight. He iterated, “All the distractions caught up to Manny in his last fight.”
According to Roach, it was more important for Manny to save his marriage life back in the day since his wife had given him divorce papers a day before the fight. However, the Hall of Famer trainer is now sure that Pacquiao is back on track and he is better
than ever.
“He's given away his cockfighting farm [in the Philippines], sold his casino and his nightclub. Now, he's back with his wife, reading the Bible every day, and he's given up basketball,” said Roach.
On the other hand, Timothy Bradley, Pacquiao’s opponent for June 9, said that the WBO welterweight did not look lively and interested to fight. He added, “In Pacquiao's last four fights, he's looked lackadaisical. He'll have to dig down deep to beat me.
This is my only chance to be a superstar.”
This will be Bradley’s first ever mega-bout against such a major superstar. Even though he has remained unbeaten to date, most analysts think Bradley still needs to prove his mettle against a dominant opponent.
When asked about his preparation for the fight, Pacquiao said, “We'll see, I'll do my best. It's an important fight. I want to … prove I can still fight.”
As always, Pacquiao also spoke about his much anticipated bout against Floyd Mayweather. According to Pacquiao, when Mayweather offered him $40 million flat, he knew he did not want to fight. Pacquiao said that Floyd Mayweather never wanted to face him because
he knows he is the only fighter who can take him down and so Floyd will never put his unbeaten streak on the line.
