Freddie Roach appalled by team Margarito comments
Freddie Roach wants to physically fight team Margarito.
After a video was released this week showing Antonio Margarito and others making fun of Roach’s Parkinson’s disease, the legendary trainer said his upcoming opponents had gone too far.
"I got a lot of calls, and there were a lot of people that said that there was a video out there making fun of me," Roach confirmed. "Well, I don't have a computer with me, so my assistant brought it over to me. I had trouble sleeping last night. I wanted
to fight these guys. I know I'm too old and I can't beat them up. I hate these guys."
The video, which was immediately taken down by the popular boxing site Fanhouse, depicted Margarito, trainer Robert Garcia and lightweight hopeful Brandon Rios poking fun at Roach by pretending to have the disease.
Garcia has since shown remorse over the comments, saying that he wishes he could take them back.
Through a translator, Margarito indicated that the incident was a misunderstanding, and that he wasn’t insulting Roach.
Margarito will take on superstar Manny Pacquiao, trained by Roach, Saturday night, 13 November, at the Cowboy stadium in Arlington, Texas. The two will be fighting for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title, and hope to impress some 70,000 fans.
"If they made fun of me, it shows what kind of guys that they are," Roach continued. "But I'm not going to bring it up because I don't want to bother Manny with it. So, you know, I don't want Manny to get mad or anything like that or to fight stupid. I can't
do anything about what they did, but if they made fun of me, then, you know what? It's OK. They'll pay for it. I'm not worried."
Pacquiao will be the heavy favourite on Saturday. He will be looking for his eighth title in as many divisions.
