Freddie Roach believes fight against Marquez is tough – Boxing News
Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao spoke about his upcoming fight against Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez in an international media teleconference on Tuesday. The fight is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Along with Pacquiao was Hall of Famer Freddie Roach and Hall of Famer promoter Bob Arum.
“The reports we are getting from the closed circuit exhibitors and the foreign broadcasters are very enthusiastic so we’re anticipating a tremendous event on December 8th,” said Arum while talking about the fight’s popularity. “It will be a fight that will
go into the annals of boxing history because these gentlemen that fought three previous times and over the course of the timeline, this fourth fight will be the best fight of all.”
Pacquiao vs. Marquez will be the fourth fight between the two fighters. Out of the first three fights, Pacquiao has won two via majority and split decision while Marquez has won none. The first fight ended up in a tie.
Even though Pacquiao has always ruled Marquez, his trainer and the fighter himself knows how difficult it is to overpower the Mexican.
“We have a tough fight ahead of us,” said Roach. “We know that Marquez in a great counter-puncher. We are working on things to defeat that counter-puncher style. Manny is looking great in training. I like what I see.”
Pacquiao is training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, owned and operated by Roach. The fighter has been under Roach’s supervision right from the start of his glory days. He considers Roach his mentor, not just a trainer, and is hopeful of giving the
Hall of Famer yet another solid victory to be proud of.
For now, Pacquiao is focused to defeat Marquez, hoping it to be a knockout defeat for the Mexican. Pacquiao knows it is important for him to score a dominant victory over Marquez to end the rivalry for good. For most analysts and fans, Pacquiao has been
predictable for Marquez, which is why the Filipino wants to knockout the Mexican with a surprise this time.
